About the Alliance
The Brooklyns Bridge Alliance is an intergovernmental body joined together through a joint powers agreement approved on January 6, 2009. The Alliance meets quarterly to provide policy direction for youth engagement efforts in “the Brooklyns” (cities of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park) and promotes the efficient use of resources between organizations. The Alliance is composed of leaders from each of the government agencies in the two cities that serve youth, so the leaders can make decisions for their organizations on how resources can be allocated and new policies can be developed.
Communication, Coordination, Cooperation and Collaboration
For too long, the governmental agencies serving youth in Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center worked independently in their efforts to help teens. This resulted in many instances of program duplication as well as large gaps in services which were left unfilled. Rather than creating another bureaucratic process, the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance brings all the entities together to streamline their youth engagement efforts through better communication, coordination, cooperation and increased collaboration.
Members
The following entities are members of the joint powers agreement: Hennepin County, City of Brooklyn Center, City of Brooklyn Park, Anoka-Hennepin School District, Brooklyn Center School District, Osseo Area School District, Hennepin Technical College, and North Hennepin Community College.
Meetings
The Alliance meets quarterly, or as needed, and meetings alternate between Brooklyn Center City Hall and Brooklyn Park City Hall. Traditionally, meetings are held on a Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
